TRAC are inviting applications from higher education institutions to bid to host the 2023 Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conference.
The conference is a central point in the academic calendar in the field of Roman archaeology and for Roman archaeology students as well as early career and established research communities in the UK and beyond.
The Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conference 2023 will take the format of a fully remote event to minimise travel and allow maximum participation from across Europe and beyond. We encourage participation from institutions which have no prior history of hosting TRAC due to their smaller size or remote location, but the application process is open to all higher education institutions.
We are looking for expressions of interest from a team of postgraduates and early career researchers based at either a single higher education institution two from within the same region (i.e., the East Midlands, Cornwall etc. or any non-UK region). The team should also secure support from at least one member of the permanent academic staff per institution to provide senior support and academic oversight.
How does the online format differ from physical conference?
As the conference will take part online, we expect you to utilise your own institutional digital infrastructure to run the conference (be it Zoom, MS Team or other suitable and widely accessible platform), source volunteers to provide staffing for moderation and secure IT support from your university’s IT units. As it is customary for in-person conferences, the hosting institution will organise the registration and collection of payment for the conference. For more information on guidance for local organising committees please contact us at email@example.com
What do we offer?
TRAC as a reputable platform with over 30 years of history of being at the vanguard of theoretical thinking in the field will provide you with support with marketing on social media and online, TRAC branding and logos, advice and mentoring from previous local organisers, give you valuable experience in running an international conference, and provide the opportunity for your team to choose the keynote and programme editorial for the entire conference, from choice of session to the choice of papers.
What do you need to send us?
To register your interest in hosting this event, please send one side of A4 maximum to firstname.lastname@example.org outlining the following:
- Prospective dates
- Brief details of IT facilities
- Provisional details of the local organising committee membership
- Details of any experience of the institution and/or organising committee member
- A brief outline of the online conference
- Any other relevant information
The deadline for expressions of interest is 15th September 2022
If multiple candidacies are presented, the higher education institutions will be asked to present their bid in an online special AGM, to mimic our standard procedure.
